Welcome to Online Reporting, Research & Writing. This class is designed to introduce you to concepts, ethics, skills and tools for digital journalism. Today’s digital landscape is ever-changing and complex; this class will attempt to immerse you in online media and research, but also give you the tools to continue to change along with this shifting landscape.
We’ll explore data journalism through much of this class, and you’ll have the chance to do some online reporting and data journalism of your own, to be published on a class blog.
That class blog will also give you opportunities to hone your online writing skills, and to share what you learn with your classmates.
I hope that this class can be an interactive and fun experience, and that when you leave at the end of the semester you’ll have an appreciation for what is out there — and possibly want to be a part of it yourself.
