NCAA corruption sources

For my second data story, I did a follow up on the NCAA corruption story that has headlined the news since the end of 2017. There were many sources I used for this story but I used three major ones to help with my story.

The first source I used was Yahoo Sports. This source is the initial FBI report that has been documented about the names of players that have been involved with this scandal.

The next important source I used was Sports Illustrated. This source was helpful for many reasons. I used this source to get the names of all the schools that were involved with the scandal and other various reports about how the scandal had effected coach Rick Pitino by costing him his job at Louisville.

My final source was from ESPN. The ESPN source was very important because of how many stories were written that are tied in with the scandal. Some of these stories include how Arizona head coach Sean Miller was caught on the phone discussing payments with an agent, the stripper scandal in Louisville, and how the Michigan State basketball team has been involved with hiding sexual abuse news.

Wildcats last team standing in NCAA tournament

The Villanova Wildcats are champions of the NCAA tournament as they defeated the Michigan Wolverines this past Monday in a 79-62 victory. The Wildcats have now won their second title in the past three years.

The star of the game was Villanova’s Guard Donte DiVincenzo, who racked up a total of 31 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds in 37 minutes. DiVincenzo shot 10/15 from the field and went 5-7 from three point land.

Unfortunately for Michigan and their fans, it was the second time in the past five years they were left on the losing end of game. Michigan Junior Mo Wagner, was the star for his team.

What started off as a close game turned out to be a complete blowout by the halfway point in the first half.

Congrats to the Villanova Wildcats.

College athletics: Where does the money really go?

I’ve decided to focus on the USA Today article about NCAA salaries for football head coaches.

Some fans may not know why a head coach receives the amount of money he or she makes. There are also fans who are more knowledgeable then most and would enjoy to know more as to where the money the get is really going.

This article would be able to appeal to both sides because it would break down exactly how much they make in a year and also gives income exemptions for the current year.

Here are some samples:

As we can see, there is a full report of the top five head coaches in NCAA football. We also see tax notes for the year as to where specifically Jim Harbaugh’s money goes to.
