Whats the Real With Betsy DeVos

Ron French digs deep into U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos !

Senior writer for Bridge,Ron French, used information and used a interview with U.S. Secretary of Education , Betsy DeVos, asking about the current state of the educational crisis with in the State of Michigan. A special interview was conducted by “60 minutes”  correspondent Lesley Stahl , where she asked the question to DeVos,” Have the public schools in Michigan gotten better”. DeVos responds saying, ” I don’t know , overall I cannot say that they have all gotten better”.

Ron French proceeds to give supporting details by bringing in out sources that in fact contribute to the statements in which DeVos is saying. Some of his main sources are extracting data from the NAEP ( National Assessment of Education Process) which gives statistical data between the years of 2003-2015, the State of Michigan has been last in its math and reading proficiency. French then brings in other sources of information such as educational budgets , and other professional input.

French introduces continually linked people towards his story such as gaining insight from people such as Brian Jacob, a University of Michigan professor of economics and education, and having a linking story to his biography , and some of this other research pertaining to this data set.

I’ve been posting online and aggregating for a long time, so I do have quite a few “aggregation sources” and other links about myself. The one place where you can find me is my own website, NancyHanus.com. 

But my Twitter Feed (@nhanus) and my Instagram account have also been around for more than 10 years. I use YouTube and Vimeo to upload video, and SoundCloud for audio, although must of the things I’ve uploaded have been on publication sites, so what you’ll find on my personal profiles are videos of my family (mostly my daughter doing gymnastics!)

One YouTube channel you might find interesting, though, is this one called JournalismVideo, which I created for my MSU journalism classes and study abroad trips in 2010-2011. I had actually forgotten all about it until I dug it up for this blog. If any of you want to upload a video for this class on this site, let me know!

I use Nuzzel for aggregation, as well as Feedly and Google Alerts. Feedly has been ticking me off a bit lately because the service keeps trying to upgrade me — and really restricts what I can do and have access for free. As a result I don’t use it much anymore. I love Tweetdeck for aggregating tweets and seeing Twitter lists.

There are a couple of really cool sites that allow you to aggregate in fun ways, such as StumbleUpon, which let’s you “stumble” into really cool stories based on your interests. I suggest you give it a try! I also like Flipboard, which I use on my iPhone and iPad.

For my professional profile, I use LinkedIn. I also have a profile at Muckrack.com. I have a Google+ account, but there’s not much there. It’s a good idea to have one because it gives you good SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but it’s just not something I keep up with.

A K-Pop Primer for Olympic Listening

State how k pop has been the focus of all the games beginning and ending ceremony at the  Olympics games, this year it was Exo k pop group

The article also gives a definition Kpop and R&b American music.

This is nice because when New York Times did this article they share links about throughout the article about the ceremony the Olympics has been doing for years Example listed below.

“K-pop will reportedly have a limited presence at the Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.” seems like this have been an ongoing event ever Olympics throughout the years

This year EXO was lucky to be the opening ceremony they have one for the closing ceremony also the article share a link to past Olympics event of other k pop starts also. example listed below

“It will, however, be more prominently featured at the closing ceremony on Feb. 25, with performances by CL, who got her start in the essential girl group 2NE1, and the boy band EXO. Other K-pop”

The closing ceremony was by another  K pop singer this time called CL What I like about this curation is that they did a k pop them for the Olympics

It could have been better if they had links to the Kpop singers and groups because not everyone knows who k pop is or its music culture and groups.

Advocacy for families overcoming disabilities

For my podcast, I chose to focus on supporting the families that have a child with a disability and helping them become a functioning member of society. Along with supporting families, these podcasts by attorney Bernard Krooks focus on special education teachers and programs.

I listen to this podcast while doing homework/lesson plans. It is important to know that others are going through the same things you are. They keep you updated on the latest research, therapy, give tips, and classroom advice. BE THE VOICE!

How was the Voters Turnout in 2016?

I did my fusion table on voter turnout for the whole state of michigan. This is my first time making a fusion table. It was pretty easy and I love the map feature. I was surprised on the lack of turn out for the state in general. Many young adults don’t understand the importance of voting! We need to start educating our youth on voting.

  • The county with the most voters is Wayne County.
  • The county with the least amount of voters is Keweenaw County.
