Data verification

In my first data story I wrote about how different data collection agencies calculate the graduation rates of certain colleges. Specifically I focused on The National Student Clearinghouse and Third Way. Because the story was about the graduation rates I actually didn’t have to verify the graduation rates of schools or states.

The data I did have to verify were the numbers I used to calculate……. I had to verify numbers like the total student population of schools, the percent of students who were undergraduate, and other volumetrics relating to those colleges in the study. These numbers were used to gain a better understanding of the colleges and students in the data story.

The way that most of my data was verified was actually a fairly simple process. I visited the web pages of the colleges in question and searched for the relevant data. One of the easiest was U of M – Ann Arbor, which had many data points right in their admissions site.

Hispanic education levels in 2014

As a young Latino, I always aspire to do great things. One of those things is by trying to obtain a college education.

I came across an article from back in 2014, about the education process across other Lations/Hispanics. Some of the results I expected and was also impressed by.

Some of the results show that most Hispanics don’t have anything further than a high school diploma, but over the years those results have changed.

In 2o14, most Hispanics have gone the distance to obtain at  least a Bachelor’s Degree.

As the results also show, it’s the female Hispanics that have become the most successful of the genders.

Tuition costs in Michigan

It is always interesting when comparing college cost because they are always on the rise. The prices can change year to year and they are only going up!

We are going to compare sixteen 4-year universities in Michigan. The total cost of a year in college can range from $15,419.36 to $25,204.00 in 2017.

The University of Michigan -Dearborn cost is lowest in-state cost with your total cost being $15,419.36. The room and board are the lowest at U-M Dearborn, at $1,600.00! However, if you want to live in Ann Arbor you are going to pay the most at $9,468.00.

The cost of college can be very overwhelming, but don’t be scared of student debt. There are many ways that can cut the cost. There are scholarships, grants, and final aid is available for those students who qualify. I currently do not pay for room and board. I commute to and from school, so that also saves me money. Don’t be afraid of students debt. You can’t put a price tag on education!

Fired for not shooting a human!

I have to bring awareness to such a topic because we are living in times of amazing changes that will challenge the peoples’ moral and intergrity.

I found this story to be overwhelmingly strange while reading it via internet, (NBC NEWS).  An officer from west Virgina, had been fired for not shooting a suspect who supposedly held a gun at the time of his pursuit; Stephen has now reached a settlement for one hundred seventy five thosand American dollars.pexels-photo-290386.jpeg

The police officer Stephen Mardar, has stated that he did nothing wrong, and that he should have not been wrongfully fired for not shooting the twenty three year old suspect which at the time he felt the situation could have been handled more sensibly. Stephen Madar also stated that he did everything he could to save the young black male who had been unjustly shot by another cop and than later pronounced dead.

I found this story to be blog worthy because justice served is the only way to live peacefully within ourselves and in our communities.
