Sources used in my data story

Child obesity is the topic I chose to do my data story about. I picked it due to the big effects it can have on a child’s life in the long run. In my curated data story I used a lot of interesting sources that were full of information that really educates people on the importance of child obesity.

One of the sources I chose to use was an interview with Dr. Chunn and he discussed his concerns with child obesity. He talks about in his interview how there is a difference between putting a child on a diet than an adult. And explains how helping a child stick to eating as much as the child can handle. I felt like using a source straight from a doctor will really inform people the serious health consequences their child might have.

Another great source I used was statistics on how many children are obese in the United States and it is proven that three in 10 kids in the U.S are obese or overweight. That is a lot of overweight children. This is a great source to inform people that it could happen to any child if they are not put on the right diet or exercise enough.

The last important source that I used and felt that had beneficial information was The department of health.  I used this source because I believe that people don’t look at future consequences when it comes to their health. The department of health talks about how obese can limit the length of your life if you do not take care of your body at a young age. Also says how its the parent’s responsibility to put their child on track for a healthy lifestyle.

How you can find me on socail media

In recent years I haven’t been that active on social media it was never something I personally liked to be on. Recently I have made a twitter account in my journaling class and really seemed to enjoy it. Finding the right username seemed a little tough but I just kept it as simple as zeinabdaher11.

In my journaling class, I learned a lot about TweetDeck. This is a great source I have been using for aggregation and I discovered it while getting the hang of twitter.

Another social media account I have created was my LinkedIn account. Having this social media account helped me connect with people that have the same career interest as me. Also, it’s a great place for job offerings, whether it’s you looking for a job or the job is looking for you.

PRSSA at the University of Michigan Dearborn

As a student at the University of Michigan Dearborn being updated about all of the schools, information and events are very important to me. Being new to Twitter I wanted to follow accounts that were organizations that I could benefit from my everyday life.

An account that I found on Twitter was the  UM-Dearborn PRSSA organization account. PRSAA stands for Public Relations Student Society of America. This account is worth following for me because I’m a student at the university and this account updates you about all of the events happening at the school.

As a busy college student, it’s always hard to keep up with all the clubs and events that are happening even though they are very beneficial in our future careers. So following organizations like this one really help’s you get updated about the events happening at the school.

An example of a good reason to follow this account is that it reminds you of the location and time of the event. Just like when there was an opportunity to get your professional headshot taken, the school has you covered by reminding you on Twitter. When being a student it’s hard to keep up, but with social media where most college students spend a lot of time on, there are ways to make it beneficial.
