Author Daniel Pink states “timing is key” on CBS this morning

CBS This morning is one of the most popular T.V programs with reporting on international news stories and interviews figures in politics, business and entertainment.

One podcast that caught my attention while browsing through the news category was Timing is key says author Daniel Pink. This is a great podcast where Daniel talks about his book “When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing”.

Something that makes me very interested in listening to this podcast is the fact that the author was sitting and explaining what his book was about and also the meaning behind the book. It really makes you connect to the author when listening to the interview.

Daniel explained that his book gives people tips on how to be productive throughout your day especially for the busy people that have school and work all day. He also empathizes how “Time is key”.

This makes up for a great podcast because I feel like its always important for an author to get on the news and do an interview about the book they have written. In this interview, the author really went into detail and it really helps the people connect and understand the author’s point of view while reading the story.

This American Life’s investigation into the supposed immigration crisis

NPR has a unique quality compared to other news organizations. It is publicly funded which allows it far more room to do interesting stories that might not be competitive in the news market, but provides important information that may not get reported.

This American Life has been a radio show since 1995, but is highly prevalent among the most popular podcasts today. It is a personal favorite of mine.

Recently TAL did a story called “Our Town” about immigration, taking a deep dive into a small town that has been heavily affected by the “immigration crisis.” The story takes place in two parts, and analyzes all perspectives of those affected from illegal immigrants to politicians and everyone in between.

The story took eight months to collect and write and is accompanied by a data analysis of the affected area.

With so much talk about illegal immigration by politicians nowadays, hearing what the truth of the situation is, by those who are actually affected, provides an interesting perspective.

Fired for not shooting a human!

I have to bring awareness to such a topic because we are living in times of amazing changes that will challenge the peoples’ moral and intergrity.

I found this story to be overwhelmingly strange while reading it via internet, (NBC NEWS).  An officer from west Virgina, had been fired for not shooting a suspect who supposedly held a gun at the time of his pursuit; Stephen has now reached a settlement for one hundred seventy five thosand American dollars.pexels-photo-290386.jpeg

The police officer Stephen Mardar, has stated that he did nothing wrong, and that he should have not been wrongfully fired for not shooting the twenty three year old suspect which at the time he felt the situation could have been handled more sensibly. Stephen Madar also stated that he did everything he could to save the young black male who had been unjustly shot by another cop and than later pronounced dead.

I found this story to be blog worthy because justice served is the only way to live peacefully within ourselves and in our communities.

  2. YouTube

Bottom Three

Quartz data, data we can believe

Quartz is a popular outlet for the data that it shares. While looking on different social media outlets for this news station I came across an interesting Twitter feed where they published data on unemployment (see screenshots) .

In this feed Quartz mentions how Trump boasted about having the African American unemployment rate down in just one year. On the surface this seems like wonderful news, especially for the economy.

Quartz uses its twitter to pull data from reliable sources to back the publication that is being tweeted, which is more than what some folks do! For example, for this article Quartz pulled the data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In its twitter feed Quartz have also included the incarceration number among African American women and men, and if those numbers where counted this 6.7% statistic would be higher. I also liked how Quartz has included the differences in numbers between non black employment and incarceration. There is a wealth of difference.

Unemployment difference between white and black Trumps tweet on Black unemployment

After viewing there twitter feed and the data they show. It’s safe to assume they have the backing for their claims. It is great to see a news outlet that links data without being biased. One could tell they are considering “The Elements of Journalism.” And that dear reader is a bullseye in the realm of news and data. Until next time.
