Area code locator is a verification tools

They are always coming up with new verification tools due to technology advancing every day.  You are probably using verification tools daily and don’t even realize. Facebook can be a verification tool if you are using it to learn information on someone. There are tools to see if you are reading fake news?

The verification tool I researched is area code locator.

It helps you pinpoint states and cities that use a certain area code. Area codes are important. If you don’t have the correct area code you will not be connected to the correct person. It shows how many people are using that area code, usage, and the carriers.

Is having good research skills important?

The journalist research article talks about the approach graduate students get when seeking information in a workplace. Personally, when I want quick answers I pull my phone out and use google. In a generation where technology has become go big people can get answers on the tip of their fingers.

Finding information the traditional way of making phone calls, going through reports, and databases aren’t the first thing young new employees do. When graduating college and wanting to work at a professional job, getting hired is not that easy. Jobs want people who have great research skills.

Personally I relate to this because I’m not that good at researching but as I’m going through colleges I feel like it’s more important to have research skills and not just taking the easy way out because when wanting to find a job after college, it could be difficult if not having right qualities to work.

The article states that college hires always had the quickest answers if they do not know the answer they will ask a co-worker, and not many young employees know how to read reports. Studies show that non-digitized information sources will be disappearing by year as new college students become hired.

The Journalist’s Resource writes an article on how graduates approach gathering information.

What is FOIA?

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

It regulates and sets requirements for the disclosure of certain public records.“Public body” means a state officer, employee, agency, department, division, bureau, board, commission, council, authority, or other body in the executive branch of state government but does not include the governor or lieutenant governor, the executive office of the governor or lieutenant governor, or employees thereof.

Enforcement as to Record Denial

A person may appeal a final decision to deny a request to the head of the public body. The head of the public body has 10 business days to respond to the appeal. It can go to court. That can take up to 180 days.

Penalties for violation of the Act

If the trial court finds that the public body has arbitrarily and capriciously violated the FOIA by refusal or delay in disclosing or providing copies of a public record, they will have to compensatory the damages and could be fined up to 1000.00.

I found a great example of FOIA about social media. The article I found is Social media surveillance I feel the internet and social media will be the new area of laws and FOIA will have a lot of work to do once we set internet laws. I feel we need internet laws.

$99 malware

Once again The Know brings attention to a new story in the tech industry. Recently a content developer for Microsoft Flight Simulator X launched a new model of plane available for purchase at a price of $99. What is interesting is that when the new plane model is installed another program that searches the computer for user passwords is also installed. The developer claims that the program was only sniffing for players that had pirated the game so the developer could press charges.

The Know does a good job in their video explaining both sides of the story, the redditor that found the program and the content developer’s response to the accusation. The Know also weaves in some comedy to make the story entertaining. Finally The Know clearly explains the facts of the story so personal opinions can be formed.

Net neutrality lede

An article I found recently, while from a… questionable source, actually had a pretty decent lede. It answers the who, what, when, and how. It leaves out the where and why because the where is irrelevant (it’s the whole internet) and the why is a much longer story than the lede can provide.

lede

I think this is a good lede because it is only two sentences on four lines, but you get the main point of net neutrality getting repealed soon. Now this isn’t a perfect lede, in fact I would say that it is rather far from one. The lede implies, at least to me, that ISPs and cable companies are malicious and instinctively going to take advantage of the situation, which is not completely true. At least they get the important information right.
